L&#8217;impact local de l&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer d\u00e9pend de la pente et de la topographie du terrain. Dans les zones au relief escarp\u00e9, le rivage peut se d\u00e9placer peu. Dans les zones de faible altitude, une \u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer peut d\u00e9placer le rivage sur une distance importante vers l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur des terres.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Qu\u2019est-ce qui cause l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer est caus\u00e9e par plusieurs facteurs :\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En raison du r\u00e9chauffement des temp\u00e9ratures, les calottes glaciaires, comme celle qui recouvre le Groenland, ainsi que les glaciers de montagne (ou glaciers alpins) fondent. Cela augmente la quantit\u00e9 d&#8217;eau qui entre dans les oc\u00e9ans du monde et provoque une \u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quand l\u2019eau se r\u00e9chauffe, elle se dilate. Puisque l\u2019eau plus chaude a un plus grand volume, le niveau de la mer s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depuis la derni\u00e8re p\u00e9riode glaciaire, une grande partie du Canada atlantique conna\u00eet un processus appel\u00e9 subsidence. Le poids du glacier continental qui recouvrait la majeure partie du Canada au cours de la derni\u00e8re p\u00e9riode glaciaire a fait basculer les bords, y compris les zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de l&#8217;Atlantique, vers le haut. Maintenant que le glacier a disparu, le centre du continent s&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e8ve lentement pour revenir \u00e0 son niveau ant\u00e9rieur. Ainsi, les zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de l&#8217;Atlantique s&#8217;enfoncent (ou s&#8217;affaissent) jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 leur niveau d&#8217;origine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00c9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer au Canada atlantique :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le Canada atlantique s\u2019attend \u00e0 une augmentation du niveau de la mer de l\u2019ordre d\u2019un m\u00e8tre d\u2019ici 2100 et de deux m\u00e8tres ou plus d\u2019ici 2150. Selon le rapport AR6 2021 du Groupe d\u2019experts intergouvernemental sur l\u2019\u00e9volution du climat (GIEC), l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation moyenne du niveau de la mer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale pourrait approcher les deux m\u00e8tres d\u2019ici 2100 et les cinq m\u00e8tres d\u2019ici 2150, selon un sc\u00e9nario d\u2019\u00e9missions de GES tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9es (SSP5-8.5). Un tel sc\u00e9nario ne peut \u00eatre exclu en raison de l\u2019incertitude profonde qui entoure les processus des nappes glaciaires. L\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer pr\u00e9sente des variations r\u00e9gionales et affectera les collectivit\u00e9s de diff\u00e9rentes mani\u00e8res. Par exemple, les communaut\u00e9s des Premi\u00e8res Nations sont particuli\u00e8rement touch\u00e9es par ces menaces en raison du financement limit\u00e9 de leurs infrastructures et de leur assise territoriale. Celui-ci est choisi de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 ce que le niveau de l\u2019eau tombe rarement en dessous. Les pr\u00e9visions des tables des mar\u00e9es sont r\u00e9f\u00e9renc\u00e9es par rapport au z\u00e9ro des CD. Les points de donn\u00e9es sur le niveau annuel moyen de la mer ont \u00e9t\u00e9 calcul\u00e9s comme des moyennes annuelles \u00e0 partir des niveaux d\u2019eau moyens quotidiens t\u00e9l\u00e9charg\u00e9s de la Section des donn\u00e9es sur le milieu marin de P\u00eaches et Oc\u00e9ans Canada : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca\/isdm-gdsi\/twl-mne\/inventory-inventaire\/index-fra.htm\">https:\/\/www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca\/isdm-gdsi\/twl-mne\/inventory-inventaire\/index-fra.htm<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adaptation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes c\u00f4tiers, notamment les marais sal\u00e9s, les dunes v\u00e9g\u00e9talis\u00e9es et les plages de sable, peuvent se d\u00e9velopper verticalement et s\u2019\u00e9tendre lat\u00e9ralement en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer, bien que cette capacit\u00e9 varie selon les sites. Ces \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes jouent un r\u00f4le important, notamment en prot\u00e9geant les c\u00f4tes et en fournissant des habitats pour diverses esp\u00e8ces v\u00e9g\u00e9tales et animales. Toutefois, en raison des actions humaines qui fragmentent les habitats des zones humides et limitent la migration vers l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres, les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes c\u00f4tiers perdent leur capacit\u00e9 d\u2019adaptation aux changements induits par le climat et ne peuvent plus servir de barri\u00e8re protectrice.<\/p>\n<p>Diverses mesures d\u2019adaptation aux impacts et risques c\u00f4tiers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en \u0153uvre dans le monde, mais le plus souvent en r\u00e9action \u00e0 des risques c\u00f4tiers existants ou \u00e0 des catastrophes v\u00e9cues.
