Cependant, dans les r\u00e9gions plus nordiques du Canada, comme le Labrador, les effets des changements climatiques sont depuis longtemps observ\u00e9s sous la forme d\u2019un certain r\u00e9chauffement pendant les mois d\u2019hiver. Ainsi, l\u2019hiver dernier, la course de motoneiges Cain\u2019s Quest et le Labrathon ou les Jeux d\u2019hiver du Labrador, deux des \u00e9v\u00e9nements hivernaux les plus populaires de la province, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 annul\u00e9s en raison de conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques hivernales trop cl\u00e9mentes <a href=\"#references\">[4]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, les changements survenus en \u00e9t\u00e9 ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 appr\u00e9ciables. L\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2022 a connu une chaleur sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent \u00e0 Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador. M\u00eame cette ann\u00e9e en juillet 2023, on affichait des temp\u00e9ratures constantes (y compris l\u2019Humidex) allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 40 \u00b0C <a href=\"#references\">[1]<\/a>. Les syst\u00e8mes de climatisation et de ventilation domestiques ont vite disparu des \u00e9talages dans les magasins de toute la province, puisque les citoyens s\u2019effor\u00e7aient de lutter contre la chaleur <a href=\"#references\">[2]<\/a>. De telles vagues de chaleur sont relativement nouvelles \u00e0 Terre\u2011Neuve\u2011et\u2011Labrador, o\u00f9 la plupart des villes sont con\u00e7ues pour des hivers rigoureux. Le froid joue un r\u00f4le dans la sant\u00e9 et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, influence la flore et la faune locales (dont beaucoup d\u2019esp\u00e8ces rev\u00eatent une importance culturelle), guide les activit\u00e9s culturelles et de plein air, dicte la conception des infrastructures et d\u00e9termine les modes de transport et de consommation d\u2019\u00e9nergie <a href=\"#references\">[5]<\/a>. Dans ce contexte, il est souvent plus intuitif pour les habitants du Labrador de percevoir les effets des changements climatiques comme une perte de temp\u00e9ratures froides plut\u00f4t que comme une simple augmentation de la chaleur.<\/p>\n<p>Situ\u00e9e au centre du Labrador, la localit\u00e9 de Happy Valley-Goose Bay affichait historiquement (1991-2020) une temp\u00e9rature hivernale moyenne de -13,2 \u00baC. Selon un sc\u00e9nario de fortes \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre (SSP 5-8.5), les mod\u00e8les pr\u00e9voient que les temp\u00e9ratures hivernales grimperont \u00e0 -10,2 \u00baC au milieu du si\u00e8cle et \u00e0 -5,3 \u00baC \u00e0 la fin du si\u00e8cle. Certains de ces effets sont \u00e9num\u00e9r\u00e9s ci-apr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">La hausse des temp\u00e9ratures entra\u00eene des <b>hivers plus courts<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Les r\u00e9gions septentrionales, comme Nain, subissent le <b>d\u00e9gel du perg\u00e9lisol<\/b> qui les endommage :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les routes<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les ponts<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les sentiers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les r\u00e9seaux d\u2019\u00e9gouts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Une fonte printani\u00e8re plus h\u00e2tive<\/b> et des pluies plus abondantes pendant les chutes de neige entra\u00eenent :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">des inondations<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">plus de ruissellement d\u2019eau<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Il y a des <b>changements dans les co\u00fbts de construction<\/b>, en raison :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">des besoins de refroidissement plus importants en \u00e9t\u00e9<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">moins de chauffage en hiver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Une saison de gel plus tardive <\/b>et<b> des saisons de croissance plus longues<\/b> peuvent conduire \u00e0 :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">de nouvelles cultures<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">plus de ravageurs et de maladies susceptibles de nuire aux personnes et aux for\u00eats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>L\u2019augmentation de l\u2019abondance des plantes et des arbres<\/b> implique :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">plus d\u2019entretien des routes et des foss\u00e9s des collectivit\u00e9s<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">des changements dans la fa\u00e7on dont les villes sont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">la perte d\u2019aliments traditionnels tels que les baies en raison de la multiplication des buissons (arbustification)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">La glace est une infrastructure pour les collectivit\u00e9s du Nunatsiavut; or la <b>fonte plus rapide de la glace de mer<\/b> au Labrador a des cons\u00e9quences sur :\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les transports<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">les activit\u00e9s culturelles<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">l\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 des collectivit\u00e9s du Nunatsiavut qui d\u00e9pendent de la glace<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">Un des aspects positifs, c\u2019est que la saison de navigation est prolong\u00e9e pour les r\u00e9gions \u00e9loign\u00e9es.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lorsque les donn\u00e9es refl\u00e8tent ce que les gens ressentent et vivent, comme le montrent les exemples ci-dessus, les gens peuvent s\u2019y reporter et en tenir compte dans leur prise de d\u00e9cision. CLIMAtlantic s\u2019efforce d\u2019\u00e9tablir ces liens entre les donn\u00e9es et les exp\u00e9riences v\u00e9cues en utilisant des infographies. En partenariat avec le gouvernement provincial de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador et econext, les sp\u00e9cialistes des services climatiques de CLIMAtlantic \u00e0 Terre-Neuve et au Labrador, Willa Neilsen et Sepehr Khosravi, sont en train d\u2019\u00e9laborer une s\u00e9rie d\u2019infographies. Cette s\u00e9rie de cinq infographies examinera plus en d\u00e9tail les projections climatiques locales, disponibles sur donneesclimatiques.ca, concernant l\u2019augmentation des temp\u00e9ratures, des pr\u00e9cipitations et des temp\u00eates, ainsi que l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer et l\u2019\u00e9volution de l\u2019oc\u00e9an. Ces variables ont \u00e9t\u00e9 choisies de mani\u00e8re strat\u00e9gique afin que les infographies couvrent toutes les r\u00e9gions de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador et les d\u00e9fis uniques qu\u2019elles doivent relever en raison des changements climatiques.
