Created in 2019, the Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) is a five-year, federal, $70 million program running until March 31, 2024. LFIF’s purpose is to support not-for-profits, municipalities and regional governments, and First Nation, Métis or Inuit organizations increase food security and stregthen local food systems through projects including, but not limited to:

  • installing walk-in refrigerators, greenhouses or irrigation systems
  • organizing community kitchens or gardens
  • maintaining urban farms or vertical gardens
