CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS

Biodiversity

Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of the most pressing issues we face today. While there is recognition in both scientific and policy-making circles that the two are interconnected, in practice they are largely addressed in their own domains. The evidence shows that climate change, and particularly land use change and deforestation, affects biodiversity, with profound social, cultural, economic, and ecological impacts. A number of species have already changed their range northwards, while other species that currently occur in our region, may be pushed further north and out of their current ranges; some species may not be able to adapt to the changes.
