Announced in 2021, the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program encourages new tree planting projects. Over the next 10 years, up to $3.2 billion will be invested in tree planting efforts to support provinces, territories, third-party organizations (for and not-for profit) and Indigenous organizations to plant two billion trees across Canada. Planting trees can contribute to climate adaptation through supporting biodiversity, cleaning air and water, cooling cities, and increasing resilience to disasters.

This program has an ongoing call for proposals with the following deadlines:

  • January 18, 2024, for a decision by July 2024
  • May 16, 2024, for a decision by November 2024
  • September 19, 2024, for a decision by March 2025
