The Natural Infrastructure Fund (NIF) supports natural infrastructure projects that support communities by:
- planting and restoring green space;
- constructing or restoring naturalized water retention or detention systems;
- diverting or infiltrating naturalized water; and/or
- supporting biodiversity and connectivity through natural infrastructure.
All of the above may utilize nature-based solutions as a way to exercise and implement climate adaptation.
The following recipients are eligible for funding:
- municipalities, local or regional governments
- provinces and territories
- Indigenous governments and band councils
- non-profit and private for-profit organizations.
Also eligble are:
- public sector bodies under provincial, territorial, muncipal or regional jurisdiction
- non-profit organizations supporting Indigenous communities
- Indigenous development corporations
