The Natural Infrastructure Fund (NIF) supports natural infrastructure projects that support communities by:

  • planting and restoring green space;
  • constructing or restoring naturalized water retention or detention systems;
  • diverting or infiltrating naturalized water; and/or
  • supporting biodiversity and connectivity through natural infrastructure.

All of the above may utilize nature-based solutions as a way to exercise and implement climate adaptation.

The following recipients are eligible for funding:

  • municipalities, local or regional governments
  • provinces and territories
  • Indigenous governments and band councils
  • non-profit and private for-profit organizations.

Also eligble are:

  • public sector bodies under provincial, territorial, muncipal or regional jurisdiction
  • non-profit organizations supporting Indigenous communities
  • Indigenous development corporations
