Kat currently supports CLIMAtlantic’s work in communicating climate adaptation and research efforts to Atlantic Canadians. Her work is deeply inspired by the relationship between people and place. She believes that informed, engaged communities are the key to a more resilient future. Kat is especially passionate about the intersections between planetary health, coastal ecosystem science, and nature-based climate solutions.
She holds an MSc. in Geography (McGill University) and a BSc. in Marine & Freshwater Biology (University of Guelph). She has worked previously on nature-based climate solutions in salt marshes in Gespe’gewa’gi (Gaspesie, QC) and has held roles as an aquatic biologist (DFO) and as a tree planter in Northern Ontario.
Kat grew up in rural northeastern Ontario, and currently lives on the shores of We’kwayik (St. Mary’s Bay, Nova Scotia) on unceded Mi’kmaw territory. She speaks English and French.
