To protect a tidal bank from erosion, oyster bags are used instead of rip rap to reduce the energy of water currents and provide habitat for living oysters, which in time provide water filtration and structural integrity to the embankment. Native plants are used at the top of the bank to further reduce erosion and provide habitat and water filtration. Rip Rap is used on the bottom portion for added stability. Costs include material and installation.
