6.Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation

The Local Action for Climate Adaptation initiative from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund and the Government of Canada aims to fund more than 1,400 municipal activities by 2031. Three funds are available and the application deadline is different for each:

  • Adaptation in Action – Increased implementation of equitable climate adaptation action taken by Canadian municipalities.
    • Implementation project applications are open from April 14th – June 16th, 2026; and from October 6th – November 24th, 2026.
    • Feasibility study applications are open from April 14th – July 14th, 2026; and from October 6th – December 15th, 2026.
    • Rapid Adaptation Projects applications are open from May 27th – June 23rd, 2026.
  • Climate-Ready Plans and Processes – Integration of equitable and inclusive climate resilience into municipal plans, processes and management systems, such as asset management systems planning.
    • Applications are open from April 14th – June 25th, 2026; and from October 6th – December 8th, 2026.
  • Residential Resilience Financing – Designing local financing programs that enable homeowners to make climate-resilient upgrades to their homes.
    • Applications are accepted year-round until funding has been fully allocated.
